Fourth of July Weekend

Since Fourth of July falls on a Monday this year, it will have a long, relaxing weekend for most of us. Many of our friends take advantage of the extra day off and plan to spend time with family. Traditionally this weekend is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

We are contemplating a road trip for the Fourth of July weekend, depending on the weather, and maybe we will just stay at home to relax instead of fighting the traffic on the interstate.  There are plenty of fun things to do right here in our own backyard.

World Golf Village Community Fireworks — Friday, July 1

Get an early start with fireworks already on Friday at the World Golf Village. Bring blankets or lawn chairs and find a spot around the Walk of Champions to take in the grand fireworks show. Parking is limited and a minimal parking fee will be required for entry to the event.

Make a big day out of it and include the dinner and a movie package with fireworks as a grande finale.  The package includes a buffet dinner at Fairways Cafe starting at 5 p.m. and priority seating until 6:30 p.m. for the showing of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon An IMAX 3D Experience” which will start at 6:45 p.m. The Fireworks will immediately follow the movie.

Riverside Arts Market – a Cool Place to Visit – Saturday, July 2

Do you have family or friends visiting this weekend? A fun place to visit for the whole family is the Riverside Arts Market. It is usually pretty cool in the shade under the Warren Fuller Bridge even in the hot Summer weather, and there is always a lot of fun things going on at the Riverside Arts Market.  The market is open on Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm. (Click here to visit our special page with our video for the Riverside Arts Market)
Plan for a complete day downtown. You can take a water taxi from Jacksonville Landing or the Southbank Dock at Friendship Fountain to the Riverside Art Market (RAM). The 25-min trip is only $4 for adults and $3 for kids, and visitors usually love seeing downtown from a boat.  The water taxi starts running at 10 am and continues to 4 pm to RAM. For those who own their own boat, there is a dock at RAM now too.

The trolley runs to RAM as well, and tickets on the trolley are $1.00.  (Those 60 or older with ID ride for free!). Click here for the schedule.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off — Sunday, July 3

The comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off kicks off the Summer Classic Movie Series at the Florida Theatre this year on Sunday July 3, 2011, at 2 pm. Lots of other movies will follow.

Check out the complete schedule here and read more about the series here.
