The weather is beautiful, school is out and the summer has arrived.  It’s time to spend time outdoors, on the water or on the beach.  But when you are looking for something different to do with friends and family, check out these events.

 

Jacksonville River Rally Poker Run

If you like fast boats, you don’t want to miss this events. The River Rally Poker Run takes place in downtown Jacksonville June 9 – 11, 2011 with lots of different activities around the Landing. Read more about the Jacksonville River Rally Poker Run here.

 

National Marina Day on June 11
We will continue with the water theme because across the nation, boaters and marinas are celebrating national Marina Day.  Read more about that event here.

 

Jacksonville Axemen Rugby Game – June 11
Jacksonville’s own Pro Rugby League team the Jacksonville Axemen are playing at Hodges Stadium at UNF on Saturday June 11. Kick off is at 5 pm. The development team Jacksonville Hatchets play at 4 pm. Come out for a fun game. Admission is $5 and there’s $1 beer to keep you cool! Keith Urban Comes to Jacksonville – June 17, 2011

Super country music star Keith Urban is coming to the Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday June 17, 2011 and the concert starts at 7:30 pm. Click here to get your ticket.

 

Kick Off for the 48 Hour Film Project – June 17, 2011

This sounds like fun.  2011 marks the fifth year for Jacksonville’s 48 Hour Film Project. The 48 hour film project is an  international filmmaking competition where film makers get 48 hours to complete a film from idea to final product.   Starting at 6pm on June 17 teams of filmmakers will gather at the Jacksonville Landing to check in for the competition. At about 6:40pm the teams will begin drawing their genres from a hat. At two minutes to 7PM the teams will be told the line of dialog, character and prop that has to be in each and every film. 7PM the clock starts and the teams have 48 Hours to write, produce, edit, score and finalize a 4 to 7 minute short film. Be sure to be there to see the madness Kick Off. The screenings will take place on June 21-23, read more further down the page.

CATS the musical in Jacksonville – June 17-19,2011

The famous musical CATS is in Jacksonville in June. The performance takes place at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, Moran Theatre. Details and tickets information here.

 

Halloween in June with Jacksonville Sharks – June 18

Summer and Halloween go together as well as chihuahuas and anacondas, but even so – Halloween is what the Jacksonville Sharks fan are gearing up for in June.  It’s time to  don your scariest witches’ hat or skeleton outfit, rattle those chains and head to the arena.  We are certain there will be blood in the water when Jacksonville Sharks Arena Football team meet their opponents the Milwaukee Mustangs at the Veterans Memorial Arena on June 18, 2011 at 7 pm.
