Fun things to do in the Jacksonville area in October

It is a  little bit cooler outside now, and it’s a great time to go to festivals and events. October is always an action-packed month  with many festivals and events in our area. October is not all about pumpkin patches, scary ghosts or oompah bands, this year we have found a lot of other interesting events as well.  Just take a look at some of our suggestions below.

First Wednesday Art Walk – Jacksonville, Florida
October 3, 2012
Since October is Hispanic Heritage month, this is also the theme for October’s art walk.  Head downtown for a colorful evening filled with latin american dance, music and much more. First Friday Artwalk – St Augustine, Florida

October 5, 2012

Viva Italia
October 5 – 6, 2012 

The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, with special guest vocalists Poperazzi, perform Italian classic operas, arias and Neapolitan songs.

Datil Pepper Festival – St. Augustine, Florida
October 6 – 7, 2012

St Augustine is heating things up for fall when  the datil pepper comes to town. The datil pepper is celebrated at this festival in St. Augustine every year. More details here - Datil Pepper Festival.

Jacksonville Bullies Lacrosse
October 6, 2012

Come out with your team jerseys and socks and support the Bullies as they take on the Reading Rockets. At Halftime the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville’s Starz Cheer Team perform with the Jacksonville Belles. www.jaxbullies.com

Harvest Day
October 6, 2012

The Timucuan Preserve will host Harvest Day, a special event marking the end of the harvest season at Kingsley Plantation. Activities will include demonstrations of plantation activities, including: cooking, carpentry, blacksmithing, and the harvest of Sea Island cotton and indigo; two of the historical cash crops for the plantation. Families are invited to help with tasks such as butter churning, cotton ginning, and producing indigo dye. This event is free and open to the public. 10 am to 4 pm.

Amelia Island Jazz Festival – Fernandina, Florida

October 7 – 14, 2012
The Amelia Island Jazz festival always has an impressive line up of artists and is one of the most popular events in Fernandina Beach every year. Florida Surfing Championship
October 4 – 7, 2012 

The 2012 Florida Surfing Championships is an open surfing event series bringing in local and regional competitors and their A-game in hopes of winning over $30k in cash and prizes. Live results as the competition ensues will be available online via twitter. Art, food, beer, wine, children activities, surf, SUP, kayak, 5K, live entertainment f/ Split Tone, Fusebox Funk, The Wailers and more will also be available during the competition.

Dogtoberfest at Metropolitan Park
October 13, 2012

Dogtoberfest is an outdoor pet event and fundraiser to benefit First Coast No More Homeless Pets, a local nonprofit organization. Dogtoberfest features a fundraising walk, live entertainment, costume contest, dog trick or treat walk, food, vendors, and more. This event is free to the public. 11 am. www.fcnmhp.org

Spooktacular at the Jacksonville Zoo

October 19-21, 2012 & October 26-31, 2012

Southern Women’s Show

The Southern Women’s Show returns to Prime Osborne Convention Center. This year it’s the 24th annual show.

    The link you have attached to the Daytona Dream Cruise is wrong. It goes to info on Biketober Fest, which is not on your calender. Both of these events are get and I am sure your readers would like to get info on both of them.
